I. REGISTRY MISSION:

Matthew López, PA-C, and Danette Kerr formed The Thoroughbred & Anglo Sport Registry (TASR®) in 2002 with the mission to:

  • Register and promote thoroughbred horses in sporting disciplines other than track racing as governed by the TASR® Thoroughbred Stud Book.
  • Allow a means for thoroughbred horses conceived AI to be dully registered as most Jockey Clubs presently do not allow registration of thoroughbreds conceived AI.
  • Correctly register "odd-colored" thoroughbreds such as duns, palominos and pintos that the JC currently registers as "chestnuts" or "golden bays."
  • Register and promote Anglos in sporting disciplines as governed by the TASR® Anglo Stud Book.
  • Register and promote sport ponies in sporting disciplines as governed by the TASR® Sport Pony Stud Book.
  • Provide a General Stud Book for the registration and promotion of horses being 1) 25% TB heritage; 2) Warmbloods of crossbreeding, i.e. Trakehner x Hanoverian etc; and 3) ALL horses of crossbreeding.

*Please refer to Rules & Regulations for each of the four Stud Books as each one differs.

V. GLOSSARY OF TERMS:

  1. AI – Artificial insemination
  2. Anglo – Prefix denoting "of English heritage or descent…" Regarding horses & ponies, Anglo refers to a half thoroughbred, i.e. a horse or pony that is at least 50% thoroughbred bloodline.
  3. Anglo-Remount – A general umbrella, "catch-all" term applied to an Anglo cross that just does not sound correct when spoken using the Anglo prefix, i.e. "Anglo-Saddlebred." The Saddlebred root just does not "ring" with the Anglo prefix; however, owner can opt to have Anglo-Saddlebred listed on Certificate of Registration if requested. Anglo-Remount also designates horses of Grade x TB breeding.
  4. Artificial Insemination – The art of introducing semen into the mare’s reproductive tract without natural, live-cover mating
  5. Blood Horse – Thoroughbred, particularly racing lines
  6. Blood Stock – Thoroughbred racing/breeding stock
  7. Blue Blood – An Anglo
  8. Coldblood – A horse of draft breeding
  9. DNA – Deoxyribonucleic acid; used to verify equine ancestry, which is now preferred over blood typing
  10. Embryo Transfer – Procedure in which an embryo is extracted from its genetic dam and then transferred to a donor mare to carry to term and delivery
  11. Fourth-generation Anglo – A first-generation Anglo line that has been bred back to a TB 2 generations with the resulting fourth generation now qualifying to be bred back to the non-thoroughbred cross. *Refer to diagram at bottom of page*
  12. Grade – Horses of unregistered or unknown heritage
  13. GSB – General Stud Book
  14. Hotblood – Thoroughbred
  15. JC – Jockey Club
  16. Polo Pony – The progeny of a thoroughbred horse mated to a pony
  17. Sport Pony – The progeny of a sport-type horse mated to a pony
  18. TASR – Thoroughbred & Anglo Sport Registry
  19. TB – Thoroughbred
  20. Thoroughbred – Blood Horses that trace their pedigree to Spanish mares and the three founding sires: Byerley Turk, Godolphin Barb and Darley Arabian
  21. Warmblood – A horse with both hotblood and coldblood in its pedigree
  22. Warmblood Cross &/or Warmblood of Crossbreeding – A warmblood horse not of pure breeding but being the progeny of two different warmbloods or other said crosses. A Trakehner x Hanoverian is an example.

Diagram of Anglo Generations (based on % of thoroughbred blood)

  • 1st generation: Trakehner x TB = Anglo-Trakehner1
  • 2nd generation: Anglo-Trakehner1 x TB = Anglo-Trakehner2
  • 3rd generation: Anglo-Trakehner2 x TB = Anglo-Trakehner3
  • 4th generation: Anglo-Trakehner3 x Trakehner or TB = Anglo-Trakehner4

This applies for ALL Anglo crosses not just Anglo-Trakehners as illustrated here.
